Whole Foods Market Nutrition Class: Spiralizing ou
By:
This year, thanks to our partnership with Whole Foods, our students have had a lot of fun learning about healthy nutritional yummy dishes and snacks they can make at home. Hopefully, this will translate to healthy eating choices all summer long, as well as all life long. Lacey Baxter introduced the students to a neat kitchen device called the spiralizer. Students had a chance to help turn a zucchini squash into vegetable noodles. They learned that the zucchini squash noodles have more phytonutrients than pasta noodles. Other vegetables that could be added were discussed. |
After students spiralized the squash, a cup was filled with the squash and marinara sauce was added.
Then it was time to try their healthy concoction and decide if it tasted better than spaghetti. Students were surprised that it tasted just as good if not better than spaghetti.
Some students were not sure what to expect, but almost everyone ate the complete serving.
Students also got to sample exotic fruits like the star fruit and the horn melon. They found out there are so many fruits and vegetables they have yet to try!
We are so thankful for our friends at Whole Foods for all the support they have given to educate our students so they can be make healthy eating choices. We look forward to next year! Happy healthy eating!
