Passport to Health Fair 2015
By:
We held our Passport to Health Fair on Thursday, March 26th in conjunction with our PTA meeting. We invited John Ranello, a personal trainer from the Jewish Community Center, to share information with our parents about the importance of exercise and its relationship to learning. He emphasized that students should complete a physical activity before doing homework at night. We have decided to give our students a quick exercise warm-up before major testing, and our teachers also stop during the day to let students JAM and move around to stimulate their brain and help students focus. Mr. Ranello also suggested that it would benefit children to be taught to use both hands equally well because they would be using both sides of the brain and expand their thinking capabilities.
Children can learn to dribble a ball with both hands.
Juggling would also be an excellent way to involved children in an activity when both hands would be used.
There were many exhibits and booths to provide information about healthy eating.
Sugar Exhibit: How much sugar is in the foods you eat?
Fat Exhibit: Track your fat intake!
Salt Exhibit: What you don't know can hurt you!
Cholestrol Exhibit: Take control of your cholestrol!
Whole Foods: Healthy snack and dessert alternatives!
