Our Summer/Fall Harvest
By:
Summer and Fall Harvest 2014
Our summer harvest yielded numerous vegetables. We had a bounty of juicy cherry tomatoes. Our plants kept giving until Nov. 13th when we got our first freeze.
Our okra plants grew to 4 ft. and gave us about 5 pounds of okra. Yummy!
We were able to harvest about 18 cantaloupes. Some were beautiful, but tasteless. Others,
thank goodness, were delicious.
We have yet to have any luck with cucumbers. They look better this year, but were still too
bitter.
Our basil plants were beautiful, and students were able to take branches home to their mothers when we cut them back in September.
We have one jalapeno plant that yielded about 25 peppers, and one cayenne pepper plant that yielded about 14 peppers. Students were eager to take them home so mom could make salsa.
A cart full of watermelons, pumpkins, okra, bell peppers and tomatoes!
November 12th- Cold weather is on the way. We harvested the rest of the persimmons, some tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos and radishes.
Giving our persimmons a warm place to ripen up!
We bagged up tomatoes and jalapenos for students to take home.
We are hoping our kale, spinach, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, radishes and carrots make it
through the cold temperatures.
