SAVE OUR EARTH
Ascension Catholic School celebrated Earth Week during the week of April 22. This years theme was "SAVE our Earth." Students participated in Earth Day activities throughout the week. They created beautiful works of art using recycled items, were encouraged to pack waste free lunches, discussed the importance of recycling, volunteered for the Trash Bash clean up, and saved energy by using lights only as needed.
This years wall display was WE LOVE OUR EARTH. Green hearts were distributed to all classes and students wrote what they love about the earth. For example, I love to watch the sunset, I love to feel the sand between my toes as I listen to the sound of the ocean, I love to smell the flowers in spring, I love to climb moutains. The hearts were placed on and around a large blue circle to resemble the earth.
On Thursday, students in Pre-K3, VPK, kindergarten, first, second, and third grades enjoyed a presentation on recycling by Miss Erin from the City of Melbourne. RC the recycle cat was on hand to help encourage the students to recycle. Students received handouts, teachers received to reusable bags made from recycled plastic, and Miss Erin played fun games to help the students learn the importance of recycling.
