Building A Garden

By:

Our school was honored to recieve the Whole Foods/FoodCoprs Garden Grant to build a garden.

This is how we did it.

First, we cleared away the wood chips, rocks, and weeds from our existing garden space.  Then we added organic potting soil to give our soil a vitamin boost. Then we planted strawberries and rhubarb.

We wrapped the garden in chicken wire to keep out rats, mice, and rabbits.

We measured and marked off the plots for a square foot vegetable garden.

We added the plants, seeds, tomato cages, and trellises for the beans and cucumbers.  We finished right before a big storm came.

Finally, we made paper mulch out of our old worksheets and mulched the garden with paper and grass clippings.

Now we just have to tend the garden and wait (patiently!) for the harvest.  We plan to use the produce at our Back to School Barbeque and then get the garden ready with some winter crops.  Thanks Food Corps and Whole Foods!
