Cornerstone: Eco–Campus (Energy, Water, Transportation, Pollution, Recycle/Waste, Green Spaces)
- Project Name: Recycing Raiders
- Goal/purpose: To initiate a paper recycing program for all rooms in the Early Childhood University building
- Who: Student Council will lead the project by making bins and postng guidlines in each room. A team of 3rd and 4th grade "Recycling Raiders" will be responsible for pick-up once a week. PTO and StuCo sponsors will deliver all paper to the Eco-Center, until the time that the Eco-center will be able to pick up directly from the school.
- How will you record the project: We will make a video outlining out steps and showing the Raiders in action, including some statistics and information on paper recycling.
- Do you have a budget for your project? No, we will be re-using large boxes for recycle bins so a budget in unnecessary.
- Starting and ending date: November 1-June 5th 2012/13 school year
Cornerstone: Nature Adventure (Exploration & Play, Outdoor Skills, Nature Spaces)
- Project Name: Music in the Garden
- Goal/purpose: To celebrate music, movement, and the great outdoors with regular classtime spent outside in our Outdoor Classroom's soon to be installed music area, where several large outdoor musical instuments will be available for students to play on or dance to once a week. We will share and celenrate with parents at a spring concert outdoors.
- Who: Music teacher, art and gardening teachers, administration managing instillation of already-purchased musical instruments
- How will you record the project: We will make a video on iMovie of student at play dancing and using the instruments, and will record the grand event at the end of the year as well.
- Do you have a budget for your project? Yes, the school has used grant funds for the $16,000 of outdoor musical equiptment and will be scheduling the installation with district maintenance within the next 2 months.
- What is the starting and ending date of your project? January 15-June 5th. Outdoor program in mid-May.
Cornerstone: Health & Fitness (Health Education, Nutrition & Healthy Eating, Healthy Lifestyles, Fitness & Physical Education)
- Name of your project: Fuel Up to Play 60
- Goal/purpose of the project: Our school will promote the Fuel up to Play 60 guidelines for healthy eating and getting 60 minutes of exersize a day by following the 6 steps on the website: http://school.fueluptoplay60.com/welcome/why-futp60.php. We will collaborate between the P.E. classes and the Outdoor Classroom to encourage time indoors working out and outdoors working hard to help the garden, as well as promote healthy eating by teaching about the benefits of eating the locally grown produce from our school garden.
- Who: P.E. coaches, Outdoor Classroom teachers, all staff will sign up and promote the program, PR will be posted on website
- How will you record the project: Pictures that will be posted on a PowerPoint/Keynote for students to learn from next year
- Do you have a budget for your project? n/a, kit supplied by Fuel Up program.
- What is the starting and ending date of your project? December 2012-June 5th 2013
Cornerstone: Natural Classrooms (Field Investigation, Stewardship, Professional Development & Leadership, Nature Curricula)
- Name of your project: ECU Art & Learning Garden
- Goal/purpose of the project: To bring students outdoors to study their immediate environment, learn how to cultivate it into a space of enjoyment and adventure, and to learn grow food that will help nourish their minds and bodies.
- Who: All students Pre-K 4 through 4th grade, all teachers, lead by Outdoor classroom teachers in art and music
- How will you record the project: Videos, pictures, and powerpoints
- Do you have a budget for your project? How will you attain those finances? Yes, over $1,000 is still in the budget from over $5,000 raised in grants and a raffle fundraiser from last year. Also, we have applied for a $2,000 grant from one local source and will apply for an international Whole Foods grant Nov. 15th for additional monies to specifially support a school garden large enough to occasionally supply snacks for all 337 students at the school.
