2012-2013
Cornerstone: Eco-Campus: Category: Recycle/Waste
Activity: Recycle through Midstates Fibers
Purpose: To offer convenient recycling opportunities throughout the school to foster awareness and the practice of recycling
Goal: To recycle paper and plastic to reduce waste
Participation: This is a school wide effort
Duration: This is a year round program
Recording Success: We receive monthly reports from Midstates Fibres telling us how much we recycled.
Budget: The budget is built into the operating budget of the Plant and Facilities and also relies on volunteers.
Cornerstone: Nature and Adventure: Category: Nature Spaces
Space: Outdoor Chapel
Purpose: The chapel was constructed in our Nature Center out of fallen trees and stumps, using only the current surroundings. It is an opportunity to convene with nature.
Goal: As an independent Catholic school we encourage all of our faculty, staff, and students to form a relationship with the “God of their understanding.” This provides a space that is both communal and personal.
Participants: All are welcome, even the wider community
Duration: This is available all year.
Recording Success: There will be some opportunity for group gatherings that will be photographed.
Budget: The chapel was made by and Eagle Scout for his final project. All materials were already in the woods, and woodchips were added. It was a volunteer effort.
