PARKING DAY

By:

Our 5th grade students participated in an international event called Parking Day on September 21, 2012

The goal is to produce a lasting, visually and physically energetic space that involves the community. The program creates a direct engagement between students and their environment and allows children to expand their imagination while crafting a creative artistic atmosphere.

With the help of our Art teacher, MaryJo Gardere and The Playhouse Fun Project, former UTA architect students our 5th graders were able to create their own park for Parking Day. All construction materials were reusable and it also allowed the children to design and build a temporary sculptural canopy for Parking Day.

Playhouse believes in teaching responsibility with the environment and in the community. Our goal is to leave the students with a foundation of what is good design and how it applies to the real world in hopes that they will leave to create forward thinking, sustainable solutions for future generations.

Material list:

PVC piping
Sod or Turf (165 sq ft)
Grocery bags
Temporary fencing post
Rivet System

ALL THE MATERIALS CAN BE RETURNED FOR FURTHER USE.
