Marathon Kids

By:

Students, parents, staff members and the principal particpated in Marathon Kids today at Loos Field house.

Being part of the Marathon kids our students will  learn to live an active and healthy lifestyle by running or walking 26.2 miles over six months, eating healthy food daily, and even learning to grow fruits and veggies!

The program is provided free to public and private elementary schools, as well as homeschools, or independent families.  Physical educators, classroom teachers, and parents can incorporate Marathon Kids into their curriculum, after school programs, and at home with their families.

Children are challenged to run or walk 26.2 miles over six months.  They are given a Marathon Kids Running Log© where they color in each 1/4 mile they complete.  This helps each child to focus on his or her goal enabling them to see progress each day.

Children are encouraged to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day for at least 26.2 days of each month.  Students color in every serving of a fruit or vegetable they eat each day on their Marathon Kids Fuel Log©.  The Fuel Log is a tool to help children pay attention to what is fueling their bodies and helps them make better eating choices.

Marathon Kids partners with local non-profit agencies to offer the resources and tools to begin a schoolyard garden.  When a schoolyard garden has been planted, the teacher and students are recognized at one of our celebration events and presented with a weatherproof Marathon Kids Schoolyard Food Garden sign.
