Our Earth Week celebration was a lot of fun. Many students and teachers wore green accessories to raise awareness on the importance of working together to make a difference. Throughout the week environmentally friendly activities and lessons were designed to inspire awareness of our beautiful planet. On Tuesday we focused on reduce, reuse, recycle. Our volunteer lunch staff helped by serving lunch on reusable plates in place on styrofoam plates. Students who bring lunch were encouraged to pack a waste free lunch. The lunch trash went from ten 55 gallon bags down to two and a half bags. We have started collecting water bottles this week and saved over six 55 gallon bags from going into the trash. Students also brought in egg cartons to be brought back to a local store for recycling. We collected 134 egg cartons. Everyone enjoyed our lights out day. It was a great way to show students how to save energy and money by turning off lights and appliances when not in use. Friday morning students made notes on leaves about what they learned this week or what they plan to do to go green. The leaves were hung on a tree in our cafeteria to share with everyone.
